One or more species are common throughout El Peten (which you can see in Parque Nacional Tikal, the Lake Yaxha park, Seibal (Ceibal) archaeological park, etc. Click to Enlarge Image We have been studying these at Las Guacamayas biological research station (Rio San Pedro)and at the Hotel Posada El Caribe (Arroyo Petexbatun, Peten).This common tree is known as Palo jiote, indio desnudo, chaca, palo mulatto, gumbo limbo,and other local names.
