When time and funding permit, each flower (each plant species) will have its own page, and its own PDF, and eventually its own PPT so that professors and students have plenty of material on Guatemala (and Honduras, etc) to study.

Bibliography on Solanum sisymbriifolium, the litchi tomato

PDF, Articles, Books on Solanum sisymbriifolium

The litchi tomato (Solanum sisymbriifolium) is a perennial herb with thick roots and erect, branched stems, lignified at the base, covered by a pubescence of simple hairs and stellate hairs with orange or reddish stingers up to 1.5 cm long. Leaves alternate, petiolate, with petioles 2 to 6 cm long, covered with stingers. Its flowers are white and its spherical, orange or reddish fruits, 10 to 12 mm in diameter and edible, very similar to tomato, for that reason it is known as "litchi tomato."

In addition, S. sisymbriifolium also has medicinal properties that have been studied in several research, such as those listed in this bibliography.

This plant is native to South America, but has been introduced in Central America, as well as in different parts of the world.
